Nortelco was formed back in 1998 to fill a niche in the rapidly growing Mobile Phones industry. There were very few local and independent mobile providers in the North East at the time, so if you wanted a mobile phone contract your choices were to visit a big brand high street store, or call one of the UK networks. These options didn’t always offer the best personal experience.

People understood the value of local and independent providers, they were convenient and offered a level of personal customer service that couldn’t be emulated by the larger brands, so Nortelco’s primary focus then and still is today to provide a truly unique and personal ‘VIP’ experience to businesses and individuals alike. No call centres, no switchboards, all customers have a personal account manager based in North Yorkshire, and you’re always supported by UK based customer services teams. We’re more than happy to visit you and your business too. We’re always on the road heading to meet clients in Leeds, Newcastle and the more rural areas of North Yorkshire, County Durham and the North Yorkshire coast. We believe there is great value in getting to know each other, so we can understand the needs of your business and how we can help.

2001 - pro-net

In 2001 we launched our pro-net brand as a way to offer an exclusive and secure service to VIPs in the entertainment sector, high profile sports personalities and talent management companies. Our pro-net customer base has consistently grown, with the majority of our customers renewing their contracts with us each year. Our service isn’t governed by customer location either, we may be tucked away in North Yorkshire, but our clients are leading successful careers across the country and we’re here to support their communications needs.

2002 - Time For Change

Our company and brand grew very quickly in the first few years, resulting in the company relocating to a larger office still within North Yorkshire – Thornborough Hall, Leyburn – to accommodate the staff levels required to maintain and manage our customer base. This rural base was a little different to what was expected from a business and VIP telecoms provider, but our service offering and customer satisfaction levels easily rivalled that of a high street provider.

2004 - O2 VIP Partnership

Our pro-net brand was further enhanced when we partnered with O2 VIP in 2004. This allowed us to offer exclusive mobile benefits not available on the high street, which included tariff discounts, a UK based customer service team to serve only pro-net VIP customers and a ‘Ring Fenced’ secure environment so customers’ personal details were kept secure and separated from normal O2 customers. All of this allowed us to offer a premium service to our VIP mobile customers that was not available elsewhere – we were incredibly proud of what we had achieved to put our name up there with the high street mobile networks.

2007 - Expansion and Relocation

Over the next five years, the company and customer base continued to rapidly expand, resulting in a relocation to Ivy House to accommodate the staff levels required to maintain and manage our ever-growing customer base. Our service offering continued to expand, with premium solutions available for VIP mobile and a move into business telecoms and unified communications not far away – each connecting our customers to their teams and contacts with impeccable service support.

2010 - Bigger and Better

Over the next three years, the iPhone took off, which saw our customer base expand even more. To ensure we were properly equipped to handle the traffic we were getting, we decided to move to a bigger office in Asquith House, Leyburn. This move ensured that we were able to manage our existing customers, while being in a strong position to meet with prospective clients across the North East and Yorkshire, ensuring that VIP clients were looked after to the level that we strive to achieve.

2011 - Caroline Ross appointed as Company Director

After 10 years of providing outstanding customer service to our customers, Caroline was appointed as a Director of Nortelco. Since then, she has continued to build an excellent, long-lasting relationship with a huge majority of our customers on a personal level. Caroline predominantly supports and manages our VIP customer bracket to ensure that our VIP mobile offering is second to none, with our UK support team equipped to manage customer queries and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

2012 - New Horizons

In 2012 we expanded our portfolio to include business broadband, telephony and hosted audio & video conferencing to compliment our continually growing mobiles business. Becoming a unified communications provider meant our customers could come to us for all their business telecoms’ needs.

2014 - Mobile Virtual Network Launch

In 2014 we partnered with Gamma Telecom to offer our own Mobile Virtual Network to further enhance our mobile services portfolio. Being an MVNO allowed us to offer our customers extra services and features that weren’t available direct with the major UK networks, including seamless integration with our hosted voice products. Again, these options took our business telecommunications offering to the next level, providing a VIP service not only to our mobile customers, but our business telephony clients too.

2018 - Office Move

In 2018 we decided to relocate our offices to the picturesque market town of Bedale, North Yorkshire. We left behind our beloved home of Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales and opted for a more centralised location, providing a fairer commute for all our team. Our new location was just a stones throw from the bustling market town of Bedale, while being within minutes reach of the A1, allowing us to venture both North and South easily to support our customers. Also as part of our initiative to reduce the company’s carbon footprint we introduced our home working scheme, which gave the team the flexibility to work from home when needed.

2020 - Doing Our Best

During the COVID-19 epidemic we were pleased to support a number of local businesses, and clients from across the UK in helping them to implement work from home systems to ensure the safety of their teams. We assisted in providing bespoke business telecommunications solutions to adhere to their needs both short term and long term, ensuring that their business efficiency remained high. We also developed our 4G broadband services, offering 4G broadband with our plug and play device, allowing contact-free installation.
